The Languedoc Village of Bizanet

The village of Bizanet is in the Corbières,
Aude, gateway to the land of the Cathars. Surrounded by vines, the
business of the village is producing wine for which the area is
famous. The village is typical of the Languedoc, stone houses and
narrow streets. It is situated 7 miles from Narbonne and close to
the Mediterranean Sea, and 6 miles from the small town of Lezignan
Corbières. The village is quiet, friendly with a population
of around 1100. There is a small supermarket, grocery store, butcher,
baker, hairdresser and Tabac / Presse in the village.
Wine growing is the main industry of the village
and there are many "Caves" and domaines to visit and sample
local wines. This historic village can trace its wine growing roots
way back to the Greeks and later the Romans. Recently, one of the
local wine producers entered into a partnership with Baron Eric
de Rothschild to plant new root stock, £25 million will be
invested in replanting new vines in the area.
The Lavoirs

An intesting feature of the village are
the Lavoirs, cold, spring fed communal washing places. The lavoirs
are still used to this day by some of the women in the village to
handwash their laundry.
Recently, the Laviors starred in a film, "Le baiser sous la
cloche", the kiss under the belle, which was shot in the village.
A tale of a boy's obsession with religion.
